GOODBYE 2020
For my thesis I explored stamps as communicators of current events. I studied the semiotics of postage stamps and created a visual representation of the global events of the year 2020 which included topics such as Covid-19, Lockdowns, the collapse of the economy, nature disasters and global protests.
The concept relied on thermal ink, which reveals illustrations underneath the ink when touched. This technique creates a storyline of the topics that can be seen within movement of two illustrations. Transformation invites the viewer to interact with the stamps, symbolizing the need of physical contact during the pandemic years.
